PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To perform preventative and corrective duties and maintenance of all vehicles and related equipment utilised by Alkantpan in accordance with relevant technical requirement and prescripts to the fleet of Alkantpan. To supply a repair and maintenance service of diesel engines and associated equipment to the fleet of Alkantpan
QUALIFICATIONS;
- Essential: Grade 12
- Essential: Trade Certificate (Diesel Mechanic)
- Essential: Code C1
EXPERIENCE:
- Essential: Minimum 2 years relevant experience
- CRITICAL PEROFORMANCE AREA
- The incumbent will be responsible to perform the following functions but not limited;
- Contributing in the planning of work for the repairs, maintenance and execution of activities associated with diesel engines.
- Implementing the scope of activities as determined by the scope of work during plant or diesel equipment outages.
- Performing diesel plant/machinery inspections to identify faults / defects / irregularities.
- Carry out the required overhauling activities in line with reference documents.
- Conducting inspections, utilizing test equipment, drawings / diagrams and manufacturer’s specifications.
- Identifying, repairing and replacing problematic / faulty components / equipment.
- Reviewing safe working procedures periodically as required.
- Ability to work on petroleum engines.
- Any other instruction required by the supervisor/section manager.
- Determining consequences of mechanical/electrical failure of diesel machines, and destruction of diesel plant and / or human endangerment.
- Taking corrective action, i.e. part replacement / repairs, manufacture or fabricate parts according to specifications, and by utilising appropriate tools, drawings etc.
- Participating in or leading diesel plant /equipment investigations.
- Scrutinizing deviation forms, plant history, service notifications, drawings, specifications, manuals etc. to mitigate against possible or diesel plant damage.
- Maintaining spares at adequate level for daily availability.
- Providing technical advice towards the purchasing of material and/or spares.
- Performing quality control inspections when material and/or spares are received.
- Confirming the appropriate use of spares and materials for optimal utilization.
- Manage the spares and materials stores.
- Providing input in project execution from the planning of work, to the implementation of modifications, as determined by a scope of work during diesel equipment malfunction and outages.
- Analysing faults / defects and determining whether modifications or replacement components are required.
- Testing and evaluating new and modified diesel equipment.
- Ensuring that all related drawings/ manuals/ documentations are updated and filed.
KNOWLEDGE & FUNCTIONAL SKILLS
- Knowledge of material used in fitting and repair of diesel engines
- Knowledge of Cherry picker, forklift and mobile crane diesel engines
- Hand skills in order to utilise a vast range of hand tools and equipment
- Ability to work with Fast moving machinery
- Working in confined spaces
- Working at height
