The Dockyard is made up of a deep water port, covered repair sheds, graving dock, and synchro lift, all of which can provide the access needed for maintenance and where equipment must be removed and installed.
Armscor manages and operates the Naval Dockyard as the SA Navy’s (SAN) third-line maintenance and refitting authority. Dockyard is one of South Africa’s strategic national capabilities, where the country’s naval defence maintenance, repair and overall capabilities are housed.
Dockyard operates one of the five dry docks available in South Africa. It also manages two of the three syncrolifts available nationwide. The facility has capacity to generate seven megawatts of electricity, fresh water and compressed air. It is 228 metres by 29 metres in size. It can be divided into three sub-docks. The ship lift facility has capacity to lift vessels up to 2 500 tonne.
