Acquisition department has a vacancy for a Senior Ammunition Marking Technician. Applications are invited from people meeting the qualifications and experience requirements set out below:
PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The refinements, introduction and maintenance of Ammunition Marking drawings to local (and international) ammunition requirements as rendered to Armscor Project Managers (APMs), the Department of Defence (DOD) and Defence Industry.
CRITICAL PERFORMANCE AREAS:
- The effective and continuous preparation, checking, maintenance of a wide variety of ammunition drawings for Landwards systems, Air Force systems , Naval systems and Military Health Services
- Advise to stakeholders in terms of in-house ammunition document requirements.
- The continuous supply of information, advice, training to Armscor personnel, DOD personnel on the National Military Stock Codification System and ammunition marking.
- Periodic reporting to the Ammunition Marking Specialist on the status (new/obsolescent) of ammunition and their related documentation.
- Guidance to stakeholders in terms of the correct, military stock codification identification groups, classes, RAINs, description and application.
- Identify, verify and advise on any ammunition marking discrepancy to various stakeholders.
- Present and negotiate in order to defuse discrepancies amongst industry ammunition experts (i.e. Export technical requirements).
- Confirmation and interpretation of complex enquiries of stakeholders from Ammunition and Explosive Technical Manuals (A&ETMs).
- Provide direct support to the Ammunition Marking Specialist for technical as well as administrative requirements.
- Manage own inventory of assets (drawings and manuals).
- The continuous revision of ammunition marking drawings to conform to international safety and health hazards, standards and / or specifications.
- Perform quality assurance on and ensure accuracy of ammunition marking documentation created for the DOD by the industry and Armscor.
- Be responsible for the configuration control of the explosives register of the Explosive Board of South Africa.
- Be responsible for the generation of explosive certificates for the Defence Industry.
- Attendance of the Explosives Board meetings.
- Attendance of the Insensitive Munitions Steering Committee.
- Attendance of the Ammunition Indaba.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Grade 12
- National Mechanical/Chemical Engineering Diploma
- Preferably also a qualified Ammunition Fitter artisan or armourer
EXPERIENCE:
- 4-7 years’ experience in military ammunition management and in a diverse range of ammunition types, categories, classes, explosives, safety categories, their packaging and transport requirements is mandatory
- Experience in usage of drawing/design software packages such as CAD / Imagineer optional.
KNOWLEDGE & FUNCTIONAL SKILLS:
- Drawing/design software packages such as CAD / Imagineer optional
- Sound and in-depth knowledge of a diversified range of ammunition types, categories, classes, explosives, safety categories, handling, packaging, marking and transport.
- Strong knowledge of DOD ammunition marking policy documentation.
- Strong knowledge and skills to exercise configuration control on ammunition marking.
- Average knowledge of quality concepts and processes.
