Research and Development Department has a vacancy for a Manager: Support Services and Maintenance in Alkantpan Test Range division at Prieska, Northern Cape. Applications are invited from people who meet the qualification and experience requirements below:

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

The Manager holds the responsibility for operational planning and management of a division including aspects such as management of employees and budgets.

CRITICAL PERFORMANCE AREAS:

  • To formulate and implement divisional strategies and plans and align these strategies and plans with the departmental and corporate objectives.
  • To manage the budget of the division in a cost effective manner.
  • To manage, develop, maintain and motivate individuals and teams and to build constructive relationships between individuals within the division.
  • To recruit, interview, select and maintain well-qualified staff.
  • To do performance management of the team by contracting performance contracts, monitoring performance and provide feedback on performance to all team members.
  • To do succession planning for all key positions in the division in order to ensure business continuity.
  • To communicate all relevant information to the team member via divisional meetings and all other relevant forms of communication.
  • To facilitate effective corporate governance business practices.
  • To develop, implement and maintain the risk management plan of the division.
  • To manage and improve the services/products provided to the customer base.
  • To develop policies and practices that affect the entire function/department within the framework of the organisation’s policies.
  • To develop and maintain constructive relationships between stakeholders (internal and external) in order to promote synergy and build a productive business environment.
  • To manage the remuneration of employees in the best interest of both the employee and the organisation by ensuring that team members are remunerated in a cost effective and fair manner in relation to their contribution.
  • To actively participate in the strategic planning of Alkantpan to ensure sustainable income and quality service delivery.
  • Manage Support Services and Maintenance division effectively and professionally to meet business operations objectives.
  • Manage Electrical Maintenance Services to support the business operations of the division.
  • Manage the implementation of the energy saving initiatives.
  • Manage the preventive maintenance and operations of vehicles, machinery, heavy equipment, and infrastructure including shooting points, electrical and conditioning systems.
  • Manage effectively the calibration of equipment within the division.
  • Manage serviceability of conditioning chambers to effectively provide ammunition condition services to tests and general test support.
  • Manage the outsourced vehicle maintenance services contract.
  • Manage the game system in a manner to maintain a balanced biodiversity.
  • Manage the general waste disposal system.
  • Manage the water reticulation system to ensure continuous supply of clean drinking to Alkantpan Lodge and Range.
  • Manage operational and safety risks within the division.
  • Initiate and generate procedures that reduce risks from occurring.
  • Preparation of submissions and quotations.
  • Manage skills training of divisional personnel.
  • Arrange and coordinate the compulsory statutory training for Alkantpan personnel.
  • Formulate strategies of Support Services and Maintenance division.
  • Manage Operational and Capex budget of Support Services and Maintenance business unit.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BSc (Mechanical) Eng Degree/BTech (Mechanical)
  • A Post graduate degree and/or Business Management degree will be an advantage

TECHNICAL / LEGAL CERTIFICATION / PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATION

  • Engineering Council of South Africa

EXPERIENCE:

  • 9 – 12  years’ experience which must include experience on supervisory / team leader level

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:

  • Technical interpretation of client specifications and planning of tests accordingly
  • Project Management
  • Financial Management and planning
  • Problem solving techniques with regard to clients as well as personnel
  • Thorough knowledge of the total service of Alkantpan to enable proper marketing and stakeholder engagement
  • Research methodologies with regard to International Standards for tests
  • Principles of Maintenance Management
  • Knowledge of Strategic Management
