Research & Development Business Unit has a vacancy for a Cybersecurity Engineer – Cybersecurity Innovation Division (CID). Applications are invited from people meeting the qualifications and experience requirements set out below.


A Cybersecurity Engineer Cybersecurity Innovation Division (CID) participates in handling of information security threats and responds to incidents by assessing suspicious activities and abnormalities in the Information systems environment, responding to virus infections and malware, and handling various information security related inquiries.


A Cybersecurity Engineer (CID) supports the Senior Manager (SM): Cybersecurity Innovation Division (CID) in order to:

  • Configure and deploy automated security tools that constantly monitor Armscor network and systems for suspicious behaviour, threats, attacks and intrusions
  • Test security strategies and defences
  • Support in ensuring and maintaining a clean audit position of the cybersecurity innovation division
  • Maintain a clean audit position of the Cybersecurity Engineer role and performance
  • Review, audit, test system architecture for compliance with security frameworks, best practices and/or regulatory requirements
  • Use best practice to carry out business process analysis, re-engineering, process measurements and change management activities
  • Model processes including mapping physical layouts and standards
  • Define, implement and maintain business processes and procedures to meet business objectives
  • Run diagnostics on information changes to check for undetected breaches that may have occurred, view threat detection and surveillance and view alerts of suspected incidents
  • Research and characterise security threats including defining appropriate countermeasures and conduct threat modelling exercises
  • Assist with preparing for compliance inspections, and will perform pre-inspections as required
  • Participate in network and security audits
  • Review and analyse security logs generated by security systems and recommend appropriate actions to Management
  • Review and analyse security alerts and vulnerability notices from vendors and other security sources and recommend for broad casting
  • Participate in risk assessments of information communication technology (ICT) infrastructure and applications and make recommendations for improvements
  • Review system audit logs and conduct security incident reporting and resolution
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of System Security Plans
  • Interact with clients and staff of all levels in a highly professional and competent manner
  • Research activities on new technologies, including testing and refining the technologies
  • Periodically conduct a review of each system’s audits and monitors corrective actions until all actions are closed
  • Research, evaluate and recommend new security tools, techniques, and technologies

  • Honours Degree in Computer Science or Information Systems / BTech: Information Technology or related fields. The Candidate should hold an undergraduate qualification (national qualification framework (NQF) level 7) as recognised by South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).
  • Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) version 3 / version 4


  • Relevant security or cybersecurity certification would be an advantage


  • At least 8-10 years post qualification experience
  • Analytical skills

  • Extensive experience in the information and communication technology (ICT) environment
  • Experience implementing security applications including installation, configuration, automation of processes and monitoring
