Such a person/organisation imports/exports or acquires from local or other sources and can supply at better prices than can be obtained by Armscor by contacting the manufacturer direct. This person/organisation normally has a warehouse / sales office where brochures or products from the technology field can be seen. (Off-the-shelf type of product.) |

| 2 - MANUFACTURING |
| |
| The person/organisation that has the necessary equipment, trained manpower and other necessary resources to manufacture products in a specific technological field. |

| 3 - REPAIR |
| |
| A person/organisation that does rework to the extent of as new or to specified standard for the technology field. |
| |
| |
| 4 - DESIGN |
| |
| A person/organisation that does design work only for a specific technology field. Such a person/organisation may advise a contractor to perform the actual work and may act as consultant to the customer regarding the standard of workmanship delivered. The output is in the form of drawings and C-type specifications substantiated with calculations applicable to the design. This normally applies to a situation where only one type of technology is involved. |

| A person/organisation that performs research studies only, the output being reports that can be used for the evaluation of different concepts. |

| 6 - DEVELOP |

| A person/organisation that receives a B-type specification and is requested to produce C-type specifications plus drawings for working models that will satisfy the B-type specification. |

| A person/organisation that is not involved with the design or development of products, but perform the integration of products from various technology fields into a saleable system/subsystem. |

| 8 - INSTALLATION |
| |
| A person/organisation that specialises in the installation of products (however acquired or supplied) for a technology field. |

| 9 - MAINTENANCE |
| |
| A person/organisation that has the equipment and spares (or can obtain spares) and performs routine/preventive maintenance function on product from a specific technological field. This implies that the product will be fully functional again but not fully to the standard of new. |

| A - CONSULTANT |
| |
| A person/organisation that acts solely as a "body of knowledge" and gives advice/training. |

| B - SYSTEMS HOUSE (DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT ONLY) |

| A person/organisation that performs the development actions for a technology field. The output may extend to C-type specifications. |

| C - SYSTEM CONTRACTOR (FULL PROJECT LIFE) |
| |
| A person/organisation that acts as the sole developer/manufacturer/integrator/maintainer/repairer/upgrader of an integrated product level 5 system. The complete life cycle of the product is covered. |

| D - SYSTEMS CONTRACTOR (LOGISTICS) |
| |
| A person/organisation that designs/develops the concepts of logistical support for products. |

| E - DEALER / DISTRIBUTOR (COMPONENTS / SPARES) |

| A person/organisation that has stocks of components for sale. |

| F - TEST & EVALUATION |
| |
| A person/organisation that has the facilities, equipment/systems and abilities to perform operational test and evaluation of weapon systems/defence products. |
