Draft Defence Industry Strategy (Version 5.8)
The National Defence Industry Council (NDIC) was launched by the Minister of Defence and Military Veterans (DMVA), Honourable Ms Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula on 3 March 2016. She delegated the responsibility of chairing the NDIC to the Secretary for Defence, Dr Sam Gulube. The NDIC consists of senior government officials, captains of industry and its association, Aerospace, Maritime and Defence (AMD). The NDIC initiated a two-phased project to develop a Defence Industry Strategy in Phase One and the Master Plan or the Implementation Plan in Phase Two. The strategy is designed to be inspirational, aspirational and transformative. It seeks to guide the relationship between government and the defence industry, and to propose approaches for developing and transforming the industry. The Minister released the draft Defence Industry Strategy on 19 May 2017 for public comment and inputs.
